What y’all think ‘gifted child’ discourse is saying: I used to be special and now I’m not and that makes me sad.

What ‘gifted child’ discourse is ACTUALLY saying: The way many educational systems treat children who’ve been identified as ‘gifted’ is actively harmful in that it a. obliges kids to give up socialising with their same-age peers in favour of constantly courting the approval of adult ‘mentors’ who mostly don’t give a shit about them, b. demands that they tie their entire identity to a set of standards that’s not merely unsustainable, but intentionally so, because its unstated purpose is to weed out the ‘unworthy’ rather than to provide useful goals for self-improvement, and c. denies them opportunities to learn useful life skills in favour of training them up in an excruciatingly narrow academic skill-set that’s basically useless outside of an institutional career path that the vast majority of them will never be allowed to pursue.

d. contributes to the disregard for or denial of mental health and stress-related issues and neurodivergency in kids, because “you’re gifted and getting perfect grades so you can’t possibly be autistic/have adhd/be suffering from anxiety, depression, cptsd, etc.!” (Either that or in the case of autism especially, your neurodivergence is considered solely as part of the academics-related “gift” so you don’t get any help for the symptoms related to socializing, overstimulation, etc.)

e. leads to kids labeled gifted getting punished, belittled, ignored, and/or bullied (even worse) rather than helped when they make a mistake or don’t understand something. “You’re gifted, you just weren’t trying hard enough!” “Ooo, who’s gifted NOW if you couldn’t get a 100 on the test?”

f. Ties their identities to “inherent” intelligence and comprehension skills which not only don’t matter outside of an academic setting but also fall apart early on in the education process (like middle or high school) as merely knowing and understanding the answers becomes of secondary importance to skills like time management, organization, and following prompts, which gifted children were never actively encouraged to learn.

g. Perpetuates the myth that intelligence and comprehension are inherent attributes that don’t need to be cultivated rather than skills that anyone can gain- or lose- depending on the amount of work or engagement they put in.

Eleven people were killed on Saturday when a gunman entered Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue and opened fire on the congregants. The victims ranged in age from 54 to 97; eight were men, three were women. Two of them were brothers, and two were a married couple.

Chuck Diamond was a rabbi at Tree of Life until about a year ago, and he remains a member of the community, living just around the corner from the synagogue. He knew many of the victims.

“These are wonderful people, good souls, who were just coming to synagogue as the usually did,” he told NPR on Sunday. “Synagogue was just getting started and mostly elderly people who come there are there at the beginning, and you could count on them every week for coming. … It’s such a crime that their lives were taken from us.”

The names of the victims were released on Sunday morning by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner. Here are some of their stories, as we learn them.

Rose Mallinger, 97, of Squirrel Hill, was the oldest of the victims.

Diamond told NPR that Rose “was in her 90s, but she was one of the younger ones among us, I have to tell you, in terms of her spirit. Rose was wonderful.”

Daniel Stein, 71, lived in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh. He is the former president of the New Light Congregation, a Conservative synagogue that held services at Tree of Life.

He was remembered for his kindness.

“He was always willing to help anybody,” his nephew Steven Halle told TribLIVE, formerly the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “He was somebody that everybody liked, very dry sense of humor and recently had a grandson who loved him.”

Melvin Wax, 88, also of Squirrel Hill, was a remembered as a pillar of the New Light Congregation.

“He was such a kind, kind person,” his friend and fellow congregant Myron Snider told The Associated Press. “When my daughters were younger, they would go to him, and he would help them with their federal income tax every year. Never charged them.”

“He and I used to, at the end of services, try to tell a joke or two to each other. Most of the time they were clean jokes. Most of the time. I won’t say all the time. But most of the time.”

Snider said Wax was a bit hard of hearing, and unfailingly attended Friday, Saturday, and Sunday services, filling in at nearly every role if someone didn’t show up.

“Just a sweet, sweet guy,” he said.

Jerry Rabinowitz, 66, of Edgewood Borough, was a family doctor.

He practiced in a “small, cozy office in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood,” TribLIVE reporter Ben Schmitt wrote in a personal remembrance. Rabinowitz was his father’s doctor, and his own.

Schmitt recalled how his father became ill on a trip to India, and called back to Rabinowitz in Pittsburgh for advice. The doctor called his father every day for the rest of his trip to check in on his health.

“I felt like I was in such competent, caring hands,” Schmitt’s father said. “Such a kind and gentle man.”

Rabinowitz also was the personal physician to former Allegheny County Deputy District Attorney Lawrence Claus, who released a statement on Sunday remembering him.

“Dr. Jerry Rabinowitz … was truly a trusted confidant and healer who could always be counted upon to provide sage advice whenever he was consulted on medical matters, usually providing that advice with a touch of genuine humor,” said Claus, according to CBS affiliate KDKA. “He had a truly uplifting demeanor, and as a practicing physician he was among the very best.”

Cecil Rosenthal, 59, and David Rosenthal, 54, were brothers who shared an apartment in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood.

Raye Coffey, a close friend and former neighbor of the Rosenthals’ parents, toldTribLIVE that the Rosenthals spent a lot of time in her house when they were younger. She said the brothers faced mental challenges and were fixtures at Tree of Life, where Cecil was a greeter.

“Cecil was always a big brother. He was very warm and very loving. Whenever he would see us, he would always say, ‘Hi, Coffeys!’ ”

“David was quieter,” she said. “But both were … to die like this is horrendous.”

ACHIEVA, an organization that works with people with disabilities said that the brothers were well-respected members of its community. Chris Schopf, who runs the group’s residential programs, said the brothers never missed a Saturday at Tree of Life.

“If they were here they would tell you that is where they were supposed to be,” Schopf said in a statement. “Cecil’s laugh was infectious. David was so kind and had such a gentle spirit. Together, they looked out for one another. They were inseparable. Most of all, they were kind, good people with a strong faith and respect for everyone around.”

Bernice Simon, 84, and Sylvan Simon, 86, of Wilkinsburg were remembered by neighbors as sweet, kind, and generous.

They were married at the Tree of Life synagogue in December 1956, according to TribLIVE.

“A loving couple and they’ve been together forever,” longtime friend and neighbor Michael Stepaniak told the news site. “I hope they didn’t suffer much and I miss them terribly.”

Joyce Fienberg, 75, lived in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, and grew up in Toronto. She had two sons and was remembered as a proud grandmother.

“[She was] the most amazing and giving person,” her brother, Bob Libman, told the CBC.

Fienberg was a researcher at the University of Pittsburgh’s Learning Research and Development Center for more than 25 years.

In a statement on Sunday, the center called her “a cherished friend” and “an engaging, elegant, and warm person.”

Gaea Leinhardt, professor emerita at Pitt, called Fienberg her best friend and told The Washington Post that she had a way of putting teachers at ease when she visited their classrooms.

“She was very intellectual,” Leinhardt said. “But also people would just always open up to her in a very easy way. She was an ideal observer.”

Her husband, internationally celebrated statistician Stephen Fienberg, died in 2016.

Leinhardt told the Post that Fienberg had been especially involved at Tree of Life since her husband’s death. “I just can’t say how terribly sad I am that this person isn’t in the world anymore.”

Richard Gottfried, 65, of Ross Township, shared a dentistry practice with his wife.

The two met as dental students at the University of Pittsburgh, the Post reports, and they volunteered with Catholic Charities’ dental clinic. He was said to be an avid runner and had been going to services at Tree of Life more often recently.

Irving Younger, 69, ran a real estate business in Squirrel Hill for many years, and was also a youth football and baseball coach.

Tina Prizner, who lived next door to Younger in the Mt. Washington neighborhood, remembered him as “the most wonderful dad and grandpa” and as a devoted member of his congregation.

“He went every day. He was an usher at his synagogue, and he never missed a day,” she told TribLIVE. “He was a beautiful person, a beautiful soul.”

exgaypositivity prediction

she’s a terf troll blog trying to build a story arc about trans tumblr forcing her to suppress her lesbianism

there’s no logic in her saying that homosexuality is a disease that makes you miserable but being trans isn’t. no one actually thinks that way. it’s a parody of how terfs THINK trans people and trans allies act. hell, half of TRANS PEOPLE think being trans is a disease that makes us miserable.

she’s going to build a story where she ends up dating a man. mark my words–a GAY man. an ex gay man. this plot point will go on for some time until olivia comes out as a gay trans man. and oh, it’s a happy ending because she got over her internalized homophobia by denouncing lesbianism and becoming a trans man.

because that’s what the evil transes want. to convert your precious cis lesbians into straight female fujoshi trans men through the power of trans inclusive conversion therapy.

alright everyone mark your calanders.it’s may 12th 2018, 12am est. let’s see how long it takes this arc to come to fruition.

well that was faster than i thought

shock:

hey folks, here’s a quick review of transTape, a new way of binding designed by a trans man who applied several of the qualities found in elastic kinesio tape and adapted it to longterm wear to create something that’s light and comfortable and can be worn for days without comparable strain on the body like binders, and especially ace bandaging.

i bought a sample pack the other day and decided to give it a go! so i’ll just share a few quick things.

PROS:

1. dysphoria relief that binders have never provided for me. my boobs don’t move much in this tape, they don’t sag either, they feel much lighter and i can forget that they’re there.

2. this is LESS constricting than a sports bra. i normally wear sports bras and this provides none of the back ache and none of the tension. also, with this, i don’t sweat the way i do in binders. it was 90 degrees today and this was a huge plus. i can actually breathe.

3. wider choice of what i can wear. low cut shirts are no problem, especially if they’re loose. i tried a crop top and a vest with this and both worked out fine. i can keep some buttons down.

4. the ‘tape’ is very thin and can easily be broken into pieces of the size you need with just a bit of pulling while they’re on the strips. i was able to correct my angle a few times before the tape ran out of adhesive and stopped sticking to my skin. it’s definitely not nearly sticky enough to rip your skin off if you do it slow and carefully.

5. it’s waterproof, which is handy for me. i can shower without even thinking about my boobs. for the first time, they really are out of mind.

6. it doesn’t feel like it’s going to have the same impact on my skin that binders did. binders warp a lot about your body over time, including your ribs and pretty much everything about your chest. the biggest pressure points of a binder are no longer problems with this on.

7. i can actually move. i worked out in this, i can stretch and run and lift things and i don’t feel it. not in the sense that it’s numb, but my boobs are both out of the way and not strapped to my chest like pillows.

8. it’s latex-free. “TransTape is made from a blend of 95% cotton and 5% spandex with a medical grade acrylic adhesive. It is latex-free and non-medicated, making it hypoallergenic for virtually everyone except those with allergies to any type of adhesive.

9. i’m normally a DD, for reference. yeah.

CONS:

1. as you can probably see, this was a bit confusing to apply for a first time and i had to use a bit more ‘tape’ than i would if i knew what i was doing. next time, i’ll be able to do it just fine, and with less of the stuff.

2. not completely flat, though some of this may just be error on my part because, again, it was my first time using it. in most outfits, it looks like i have abs, but in very form-fitting things, it doesn’t look fantastic.

3. you have to buy rolls of it, and they don’t last forever. i honestly don’t think it’s that expensive considering how much you can get out of it once you learn how to use it with a small amount, i had to use the whole sample because it was my first time using it but i’m confident that i won’t need nearly that much next time, but it’s not a one-time purchase. i guess neither is a binder, but i’d have to do the math.

4. only comes in two colors right now, so depending on your skin color it could stick out like a sore thumb. so far as i know, more colors are planned.

CLOSING:

there hasn’t been a long time to research every effect of this on our bodies, but the same can be said about most things to do with transitioning or just dysphoria-alleviators in general. i’ve seen a few fearmongering anecdotes from self-appointed experts who have nothing to stand on except they have thousands of followers who will believe them, who really don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to this stuff or just want to discourage any kind of hope, which really pisses me off, and it’s up to you to make the informed decision for yourself.

when it comes down to it, there’s really no perfectly 100% good way to do any of this. we know that binders are extremely unsafe even when worn correctly, especially through longterm use, and this is absolutely an option to check out and see IF it works for you.

but i can tell you with full confidence that i could immediately tell a difference between this, binding, and sports bras – for the better. my body doesn’t feel like it’s under strain, it doesn’t feel compressed, i don’t feel claustrophobic, and i don’t have to take this off in an hour or suffer through hot weather risking heat stroke. it also has several incredibly unique solutions to my dysphoria that i’ve never seen in any other form of binding.

i think this is definitely an option worth trying. it’s not a perfect solution, and i would HEAVILY suggest taking a break from it each time you replace it to make sure your body can adjust and recoup, the same way you would with any other kind of binding.

people are sooo against eating disorders until they take away the names and switch it to “dieting” or “health tips”

like ohh you don’t support eating disorders and think they’re terribly tragic? then why are you constantly talking about how you eat too much? why do you separate foods into categories like “guilty pleasures” and “guilt free treats”? why do you insist that the ultimate healthy diet is eating less and working out more? why do you think you have to work out a lot more if you ate something “"bad”“

why are eating disorders only bad if we’re being hospitalized, but if we’re drastically losing weight and dont have a diagnosis we’re “doing great”

why did i have to hear more and more compliments about my weight loss than people concerned because i was getting weaker and becoming even more tired than usual? why did people make me want to go back to starving myself because i want the compliments that they gave me when i was rapidly losing weight?

eating disorders are only seen in a bad light when people are either dead or dying, but if we’re just getting skinnier it doesn’t matter how we lost the weight- we’re seen as a success story because we turned out thin and thats what really matters right? being thin? thats the only goddamn important thing in this world

Multiply this by a thousand if you’re fat.

Most of “dieting culture” is actually deeply rooted in orthorexia, an obsession with only eating “pure” and “healthy” foods in controlled amounts.  It’s currently not classed as an eating disorder in itself, but rather a symptom of disordered eating behavior that goes hand in hand with anorexia or bulimia.

It’s an obsession with eating only “the right foods” or a perception of “healthy, pure foods” and having “cleanse” days and “detoxing” when you slip up and eat either the wrong food or too much of something. Now, tell me that doesn’t sound like something you might read under Cosmo’s “top ten tips to lose belly fat for summer”, or hell, literally any health vlogger on youtube with thousands of subscribers claiming they cured their depression/cancer by doing the banana cleanse, which yes, is actually a real thing. Don’t do it. Please. Love yourselves.

A UK based study (can’t find it right now but I will add it in if I can) on eating disorders noted that those most likely to suffer from the symptoms of orthorexia are people who think they are “just dieting” or trying to be really healthy by following popular “pure” food movements like veganism and paleo, but to unhealthy extremes. Usually because they’ve been suckered in by popular food vloggers who argue violently against the validity of the term, or the notion you can ever eat “too healthily”, despite the term being coined by Dr Steven Bratman back in 1996, a physician well known for being an advocate for safe, alternative medicines and therapies for better health—so not just a “western physician” ragging on “pure alternatives” like a lot of these diet frauds claim.

Eating healthily is not about deprivation. The human body needs fat, it needs carbohydrates, it needs salt, and a whole host of other things people will try to convince you you need to eat 0 of, in order to be healthy.

Most of you know I got super sick at the start of the year from an horrendous virus that meant I couldn’t eat solids for almost six weeks, I lost a lot of weight very quickly, over 20lbs. And while I’ve managed to gain some of that back as I’ve gradually been able to increase my food intake (I am now up to roughly 1200 calories a day which is still too low for my size and age, but much better than the 200 I was living on for over a month) I’m still suffering the side effects of being forced to eat nothing but organic oatmeal and bone broth for all those weeks, including but not limited to hair loss, broken nails, skin that looks like absolute shit, and not to even mention the mental and physical fatigue I’m still suffering from over six months later

And don’t get me wrong, I was eating healthy foods, I was enduring the “detox” dream so many magazines and health vloggers rave about. But the truth of it is, healthy humans aren’t made to live on those things alone, (and that’s not actually how the body detoxes itself, but that’s another rant for another time)—regardless of how healthy those things are.

You need to eat.

You are allowed to eat.

Fuck these disordered ideas of societal norms. You can be healthy and happy and worthy, without being thin.

The Heathers trailer is so brutally unpleasant and really seems to enjoy knocking on minorities for no reason that I’m honestly convinced that these people don’t really give a shit about the original film’s intentions and just wanted an excuse to go “SEE! MINORITIES CAN BE BULLIES TOO”

Like the whole minority bait shit was bad enough but I really wasn’t expecting the movie to be like “hey I bet you think it’s weird that these marginalized kids managed to become super powerful and popular? Well we do too and we’re gonna mock them relentlessly for it”.

I mean on the plus side, it makes the movie even more ireedamable

OKAY YOU KNOW WHY IT STRUCK A WEIRD CORD WITH ME, because the protagonist was a skinny, straight, white girl. It’s like they were trying to imply that the antagonists are meant to represent a possible future where they somehow have enough power and popularity to bully the conventionally attractive protagonist.

Basically it’s less of a Heathers reboot and more like a live action version of this pic

I WAS JUST KIDDING I DIDNT THINK THEY WERE SERIOUS

HOW TO WRITE 20 PAGES (from one girl w/mental illness 2 the rest of u, but please keep in mind all of this is just personal Stuff That Worked for me n u might be different):

  • first of all, and probably most importantly, make that paper about something you actually give a shit about. if you can write an essay on how long shakespeare’s dick is when you’re talking to your friends, that’s a good topic. don’t choose something u don’t care about, you will Want To Die
  • “okay but the only topics are ones i don’t care about” talk 2 ur teacher 99% of the time if you’re like “here’s a well-thought-out thesis can i talk about this instead” they’re like “sure lmao i just couldn’t think of other paper topics to suggest”
  • “they said no” cool find the one u hate the least and try to tie it into something u like. for example i really hated this stupid paper i had to write about a stupid book so i ended up writing about the food inside the book and whether or not it was a historically accurate depiction of food. turns out i fucking love talking about food. i also remade some of the old recipes and brought them in as part of the presentation of my project and people went fuckken nuts bc BREAD. basically i thought about “what motivates me? uh food” and followed that. it was a 45-page book about bread and i looked like a really good student when really i just love bread (somewhere, oprah smiles over me)
  • the 20-pagers are the ones you Actually Cannot Do the night before. i know we all got real fuckken cocky back in hs when we learned how to do 5 pages in one night w/out trying too hard but 1. as a teacher now i can tell u for sure that teachers do know you rushed it, we just Don’t Care bc We’re Not Paid Enough and 2. twenty pages is not the same thing. you need to actually take the time to do it. this is the actual version of “you’re not in hs anymore” DONT lie to yourself and think “it’s fine i’ll do it in one day” you will !! Regret it!!!!
  • “raquel. raquel. listen to me. do you actually believe i’m capable of time management. raquel i have depression i barely manage to exist.” same. but the truth is that when i started like?? actually following the rules of timelines and taking my time etc it actually really helps mental illness. you don’t feel pressured all the time by a deadline, so your anxiety chills a little bit. small progress being acceptable means that on depression days, you don’t have to worry you’re fucking it all up. when it’s 15 minutes every day (even if it’s only 1 word a day) it feels a lot better.
  • ask the teacher what timeline they’d recommend. they actually Know.
  • always ask if it’s informal or formal (if you can use “I” statements or not). informal essays can rely on personal feelings and are so much easier and trust me if you find out on the day it’s due that you could have written 12 pages about your feelings instead of 12 pages of research, you will Be Very Upset
  • i lie to myself all the time and move the deadline up. i write it in my agenda as at least 2 days before it’s due. surprise!!! i tricked u, self!!! you can’t procrastinate!!
  • agendas/planners need to be what actually works for you. i liked to prioritize w/colors + keep lists. i really love crossing things off lists. it’s like… a balm. for me, i usually say i have to finish the first 2 things, start the 3rd thing, and “touch” at least half the list. if i finish the whole list i get a prize. also i get to cross off everything which is so satisfying i’m sure it’s someone’s idea of a rush. there’s so many “how to” documents on these that i won’t get into it but frankly?? if you don’t write it down you will not remember it. “yes i will” no you won’t greg. just do it. write it down. write it where u can see it. not there, greg. greg, somewhere good. my friend is smart af and uses a post-it on her laptop. that doesn’t work for me bc i can just? use my hand to cover the anxiety? so choose somewhere good greg.
  • nervous system, skeleton, meat, skin. nervous system is the thesis. skeleton is quotes/data. meat is the analysis of that data. skin is the fancy transitions + beautification.  meat goes on both sides of bone, and skin goes all around. nervous system has to touch everything. do what your teachers have been begging u to do since 3rd grade and start w/an outline. do this while you read/research. i usually have a starter thesis like “lady macbeth is a feminist ICON” then take the quotes i think fit. but if while you’re reading u realize u wanna talk about the use of feminine language and how shakespeare parallels daintiness w/sharpness, u still have a bunch of quotes you can use or not use. this works also w/research papers. just pull what u think is something u wanna talk about. copy-paste it but leave a link to where u got it. then put a bullet point under that says roughly why u mention it
  • if you just write the outline like you’re keeping notes to yourself you’d be amazed how quickly you write the essay bc we get stuck in academic language but it’s easier to translate “this is why bees are the #bomb” into a paragraph. i mean you just rewrite your notes to yourself in academic speech. “The above passage illustrates the growing necessity of pollinators such as bees in an agricultural environment.”
  • keep track of your sources + label them. don’t just write “(SOURCE)” instead if you’re using multiple sources use the lazygirl way which is (SA1) or whatever shorthand u have for each source. then when you need to finish your sources you go to your little source document, find the one labelled SA1 and then “Find+replace” w/the actual source.
  • integrate quotes so it reads w/clarity which means don’t do this but if you’re running late on it and don’t have time to look up the quote u want to fit this situation, technically you can “use any” word you want (56). so yeah “there is” a moral question about it but you “can” make up quotes (79, 90). don’t “actually” do this unless you’re seriously in a crunch. which u shouldn’t be, bc u managed ur time, right?
  • running late part 2 (which again would never happen bc you followed my advice and made a little time table for yourself but anyway if it does somehow magically happen) i really recommend using school computers to do your work. ur surrounded by people who will hold u accountable + u will focus
  • running late pt3 on the day of it being due, around 5 PM, be honest w/yourself and see where you are. if you’re like “it needs 2 more hours” okay. but if you’re like “this is……… not started” email the teacher. they’ll be so much more receptive the earlier you do this in the process. it looks like “i’m genuinely struggling and i hope to finish this on time but i’m worried i won’t” instead of “i started this at 11:58PM and am asking for an extension”. please also just… be honest?
  • “my teacher won’t accept late work!” they all say that, he probably will, particularly if you have a note from the school therapist being like “lmao she’s got so many mental illnesses idek how to help her”
  • “no he really doesn’t, he doesn’t care” you can file for disability if you have mental illness, and, in fact, you should if it’s something that often stops you from completing work on time. i didn’t bc i found that it just let me procrastinate for a longer time, but having that on file means you can go to the dean.
  • “no!!! raquel you’re not listening i have 2 pages and he doesn’t take late work!!!!!!!!!”  okay. yeah that’s bad. but nerves, skeleton, meat, skin. what is it that you’re struggling with? is it that your can’t find any quotes to back up your thesis? impossible, tbh, you need to be more willing to purposefully misuse quotes (don’t do that). but the better option is to just change the thesis.
  • “i don’t even have that!!” did you. do the reading? if you even just watched the movie, you probably have an opinion on something even if it’s “this is bad.” you can use that. use why you didn’t like it to write a hate-fueled examination on how whiny the main character is and why u think the author is trying to point out how miserable cis white boys are to deal with.
  • “i don’t have enough sources!!!” go to wikipedia’s page about it and look @ the sources. try to like actually read some if you have time but frankly in a hurry a student (me) might be compelled to just slap the source in there.
  • “how the fuck do i analyze this”. u know how ppl agonize over why an actor breathed in a scene. melt into that kind of thinking. you can literally force the words to mean whatever you want. i’ve talked about word choice so specific that i based a 12-page essay on three separate uses of the words “my dear”. i talked about the possessive “my” and how it developed for like 5 of those pages. and always repeat the thesis like a million times. after every analysis you should talk about how it links to the thesis. that is like a free 3 sentences every paragraph.
  • “i did all that and it’s still 3 pages too short” quick ways to Beef Him Up: definitions are great in research papers + essays bc you can talk about either word choice or like the definition of every process used in getting the data. also make the conclusion hella informative (it should answer “what does this mean moving forwards” most of the time, tie it into modern life or into the past). thicken ur intro with “here’s a quote from this guy about it and what he personally felt about acid-base titrations”, use a paragraph to talk about the history of the data/book, use a paragraph to talk about the modern reception of the data/book. also look for where you can use two words instead of one even tho like grammatically don’t do that.
  • worst comes to worst, brevity is the soul of wit. most teachers prefer concise over rambling and all over the place. if you choose to scoot under the page limit, tho, your writing etc needs to be exceptionally clean. frankly i’ve only done this once and it was terrifying
  • make computer read it aloud 2 u before u submit. “raquel….. i can’t look at it anymore”. you’re not looking @ it, you’re discovering you wrote “breath” not “breathe” and u need to change it
  • tutoring centers exist, i worked in one, and this is how i know they actually Help and have Good Ideas
  • ask about extra credit and do it tbh
  • good luck…. breathe. and remember u are astronomically more important than a grade could ever be.

@madd-catter lots of these apply for not 20 page long essays too and are helpful so…

BS the entire thing. Need to say something that can be said in 3 sentences? Say it in 6.
